If you apply to come to the UK for more than 6 months or if you extend your visa for longer than 6 months, you will get a Biometric Residence Permit (BRP), which you can use to prove your identity and right to study or work in the UK and the right to any public services or benefits you are entitled to.
The BRP will include:
- Your name, date and place of birth
- Your biometric information (fingerprints and picture)
- Your immigration status and any conditions of your stay
- Whether you can access public funds
If you applied for your visa from the UK, you will get your BRP by post.
If you applied from outside the UK, you will have to collect it before your vignette expires or within 10 days of arriving to the UK, whichever is later, from either your sponsor or a named Post Office Branch (it will be told in your decision letter).
